New Weigh-In-Motion project: CAV chooses Sinelec’s WIM solution, LIBRA/S

Concessioni Autostradali Venete (CAV) chooses Sinelec’s WIM solution, LIBRA/S, to realize a Weigh-In-Motion system. The project includes design, installation, calibration, and implementation of a WIM system to support the monitoring activities of heavy traffic on the stretch of the A4 motorway managed by CAV.

The implementation site identified by the concessionaire is located near the Padova-East exit, in the direction of Milan, among a 3 lanes motorway section subject to a significant volume of heavy traffic. In addition, the proximity of the station to some engineering structures will allow future combined analyses of data collected by the WIM station and the measuring instruments used to monitor the structures themselves.

The issue of real-time and continuous monitoring of circulating loads on the road is crucial for the management of motorway infrastructures. In addition to providing information necessary for the statistical analysis of heavy vehicles, the WIM stations are offered as suitable tools to develop decision support systems for planning maintenance and repairs. In addition, by promptly identifying overweight vehicles, they allow for the implementation of control activities, and possible dissuasion and enforcement policies.

LIBRA/S is Sinelec’s end-to-end solution for WIM, largely flexible, modular and scalable, which integrates field and center elements for advanced management of weighing stations and collected data. Though this solution, Sinelec provides concessionaires with its technological expertise and in-depth knowledge of operations, fully responding to the wide range if needs that can arise in the motorway environment. WIM projects on complex road infrastructures, such as the A4 motorway in the stretch managed by CAV, can thus be controlled at every stage, allowing the harmonization of all processes and the achievement of high-performance levels in terms of accuracy and reliability of the measuring station over time.
