01 Jun 2021 Volkswagen and Sinelec together for connected mobility
Volkswagen and Sinelec started a partnership that significantly bring together car makers and road operators, two major players for the developing of technologies for connected mobility. The cooperation, which led to an innovative project that looks at the mobility of the future, was born in the context of the Connected Car & Mobility Observatory of the Politecnico di Milano, of which both companies are members and support research.
The joint initiative has the goal to deliver mobility services through Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS) in real traffic conditions, by winning the challenges of complex operations that involves different parties with their own processes, languages, and times that must now meet.
Reaching a cooperative ecosystem with a bi-directional vehicle-infrastructure communication will enable more advanced and safer traffic management. At the same time, this achievement will be fundamental in a long-term perspective for the introduction of CAVs (Connected Autonomous Vehicles), the culmination of smart roads.
Thanks to this project, Volkswagen and SINELEC – technology arm of ASTM Group – will be among the firsts to implement a C-ITS management system in open traffic conditions characterized by dynamic communication based on real events and space-time control rules.
